Global Missions is one area of interest for our team. Several of us served in the mission field for the first time this June 2013 as we travelled to the Dominican Republic for Mission Adventures with an organization called YWAM (Youth With A Mission). Please visit http://ywamsanpedro.org for more information.
While there, we trained under some young missionaries to lead a VBS Style Ministry in several areas of the San Pedro community. We lived on the YWAM Base, slept under mosquito nets, dealt with some unusual bathroom policies, weathered the sticky humidity and heat without air conditioning, tried some different foods, and through all of it, we felt and shared the love of Jesus Christ like never before! In all, we visited five communities including an orphanage , Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, which means Our Little Brothers and Sisters, and a street ministry supported by YWAM called the Malecon Project.
Alaska (A Testimony from Haley Phillips)
My name is Haley Phillips. I am 17 years old and I am a senior at Schley County High School. I sing in the youth band at Cornerstone Church and I have a passion for music. Two summers ago, I took that passion for music to the mission field in Teller, Alaska.
While there, I led worship in a Vacation Bible School type ministry in this very rural town. The experience was indescribable! Being able to touch the lives of others by sharing God's love is something I will never forget! Because this was such an incredible experience, I returned for my second summer (2013) to Teller, Alaska where I was able to share the love of Christ again with these children and families. The kids really enjoy the songs and dances!
Missions is a huge part of my life, and I look forward to what God has planned for me, and my future in missions.
