Saturday- Day 7 Matthew 27:62-66 (NIV) The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.
Rumors When you say the word rumor, what do you think of? Probably something bad, am I right? I have never heard of a “helpful rumor.” All the rumors I have heard, whether they were about me or someone else, have been hurtful. Around 55 A.D., rumors were going around that the disciples had stolen Jesus’ body. By this time, Jesus had ascended into heaven almost 25 years earlier. This rumor was being used to discredit Christian claims. Back up to Saturday, before Resurrection Sunday, the Pharisees meet with Pilate to ask if a guard can stand in front of the tomb, to guard Jesus’ body from his disciples. Later in Matthew’s Gospel, after they realized Jesus’ body had gone missing, the chief priests met with some soldiers, handed them a large sum of money, and told them to spread the rumor, “The disciples stole Jesus’ body” (Matthew 28:11-15). The question now becomes what will you believe? Putting your trust in Christ takes faith. A lot of questions can be answered through God’s Word, historical evidence, and scientific evidence, but it still takes faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Since we do have the opportunity to be physically with Christ at this moment, nor were we there at the time of His resurrection, will you place your faith in Him? If you have already put your faith in Him, are you willing to hold strong to your beliefs even when the world seems to be pulling you in the opposite direction?
